Along with rotors and Calipers, pads are an essential part of the braking system. When you hit the brakes, the pads put the squeeze on the rotors, and the Jeep stops. There are dozens of pad sets available on the market – they come from different brands and fit different vehicles. In this post, we’ll focus on the best brake pads for Jeep Wrangler TJ.
I hand-picked three sets of front Brake Pads and three rear shore kits. These have proven to be incredibly effective for the TJ, especially for off-roading tasks. A quick note: they are sold separately, but, since the pads and shores come from the same brands, we’ll review them together. The comparison table also includes two all-in-one types of kits – check them out as well!
Best Brake Pads for Jeep Wrangler TJ Review
1. ACDelco 14D477CH
We begin our list with a top-notch set by ACDelco. This company is one of the biggest players in the field, and the engineers did an excellent job with this brake pad/shoe set. The first thing that caught my attention was the impressive mix of ceramic with semi-ceramic and organic for increased reliability and durability. The noise reduction level is decent, especially compared to stock Jeep Wrangler gear.
Installation won’t take much time, and the package includes all the necessary hardware. Another reason to consider this set over the competition is the affordable price-tag. ACDelco made sure that this was a low-budget pick, suited for most drivers. During my test, I was a bit disappointed by the stopping power of these pads, though. It’s quite alright, but a little bit more bite would’ve been appreciated.
As an affordable purchase, this ACDelco set is a bargain and offers excellent value. If you put reliability, durability, and ease of installation first, you might want to add it to your list of must-haves. While it lacks some bite, the performance on and off the road is still solid.
2. Bosch BP477
With the Bosch pads/shoes, you can expect exceptional stopping power along with increased ride quality. On top of that, the rubber-core (multilayered) shim does an amazing job of reducing the noise. Add a protective layer for extended durability, and you’ll get another good investment for your money. It’s also worth mentioning that the pads are made of aluminum-based alloy, which is a go-to material for top-quality gear.
The only downside is the (minor) quality control issues. That means you may get a package that lacks installation hardware, or the pads and shoes may have tiny scratches on them. You can always send the product back, of course, but I still expect Bosch to fix this as soon as possible.
If not for the issues for quality control, Bosch’s set could’ve been the best deal on our list. The pros include leading noise isolation, strong, sturdy build, and impressive performance in off-roading. Overall, this is a safe bet for drivers looking to get a good balance of price and quality.
3. Power Stop Z36-477
When it comes to third-party Jeep gear, Power Stop is a brand that can be trusted. These front and rear brake pads are a good example of that. The price-tag is steep and will make some potential customers reconsider. But if you’re ready to pay a top dollar for one of the best offers on the market, you’ll most likely find these pads to be exactly what you need.
They are 100% protected against contamination (rust and corrosion) and greatly reduce the noise level. Plus, the package includes brake grease and all the necessary hardware.
You can also look at the analogue of Disc Brake Pad BC1273 from Bosch:

While this isn’t a particularly cheap purchase, the steep price is well compensated. The powder coating (anti-rust/anti-corrosion protection) and chamfered slots (noise reduction) are good enough reasons to consider these pads. The generous package, along with the premium-level materials, adds to the overall appeal.

Conclusion
And that’s pretty much it for our list of the best brake pads for the Wrangler TJ. Jeep vehicles are known to be highly customizable, and the different parts of the braking system are one of the most important third-party upgrades. That’s equally true both on and off the road. If you’re looking for an affordable purchase, ACDelco has got your back.
Bosch, in turn, is a bit more expensive and boasts exceptional performance along with low-dust and quiet braking. Power Stop’s front and rear pads deserve your attention as well. They’re not particularly cheap but will be a good investment if you’re ready to commit in the long run. This company also has an all-inclusive deal that includes rotors, pads, and calipers in one package. Teraflex has a similar offer. Make your choice wisely!
