Folks that travel a lot and like to do camping in the wilderness know very well what a trailer hitch is. In simple words, itâs a device that you attach to the chassis of your Jeep. For towing, itâs an essential component, especially if youâre planning on hauling a boat, a plane, or, well, a trailer. It allows eliminating the sway that is inevitable, especially when driving through rough terrain.

Buyerâs Guide
Thatâs it for my list of the best trailer hitch products for your Jeep. There are dozens of different brands, styles, and sizes. Plus, as we learned, there arenât universally good âtowersâ, meaning youâll need to keep in mind the model of your vehicle. But how do you know what to look for in a trailer hitch? What are the most important aspects/key factors to consider? Read my Buyerâs Guide and youâll find out!
Towing Capacity
First things first, learn how much weight a hitch you seem to like can carry. I included all the necessary information in my comparison tables, but if you want to shop on your own, always check the towing capacity. This can be easily identified by the class. Overall, there are five classes. For example, Class 1 has a GTW (Gross Towing Weight) of up to 2K pounds and is best suited for smaller vehicles.
Class 5, in turn, easily handles everything up to 18K pounds. These hitches are for bigger (full-size) trucks and SUVs.
Anti-rust and Anti-corrosion protection
The trailer hitch is one of the most vulnerable and out-in-the-open accessories for a Jeep, and it does need protection against rust and corrosion. The tow hitch is usually installed right underneath the Jeep and faces all the challenges on the road. Debris, dirt, mud, rain, snow, and sun rays can ruin it in the blink of an eye.
The Type
Did you know that there are three kinds of hitches on the market? First of all, youâve got the regular trailer hitch receivers. They are the most loved ones among regular drivers as they are easy to use. And, they can handle above-average weights. All youâll have to do is attach the receiver to your Jeepâs frame â thatâs it. The gooseneck hitches, in turn, can take on considerably more weight.
The bad news is â youâll have to attach/install them on the bed of a truck. No, theyâre not compatible with SUVs, and installation takes some time and skills. Last, but not least, bumper trailer hitches attach (yep, you guessed it) to the Bumper. Installation takes little time and effort, but these hitches have a modest towing capacity.
With the best trailer hitch for Jeep (Cherokee, Patriot, Renegade â you name it), you wonât feel any bumps on the road. But which one will be a good pick for your vehicle? Which hitch will be a smart investment for your money? Letâs find out together! I spent weeks in search for the most reliable, durable, and feature-packed gear and the following lists represent the best of the best.

Just like the name suggests, Patriot is one of the best SUVs for conquering the American wilderness. While it might not be as reliable or durable as, say, the Wrangler, the affordable price tag makes it worth your while. For towing, the Patriot is an excellent choice. It can handle a medium-size trailer or boat.
CURT and Reese Towpower have the best offers on the market right now. They are equally efficient, well-protected, and reasonably-priced

The Renegade was introduced to the world back in 2014 but is already loved and respected by the fans of off-roading. This is the first-ever Jeep model to be manufactured outside of the United States. Itâs not as big and strong as the legendary Jeeps from the early 2000s, but itâs quite capable of handling most towing tasks.
Draw-Tite, MaxxHaul, and, again, CURT can be trusted with a trailer hitch for your Renegade. These are affordable, durable, and, mostly, protected against harsh weather conditions.

The Cherokee has been around since the 20th century (1993, to be exact). With 27+ years of a strong presence on the market, it has one of the biggest and most loyal fan bases across the globe. The latest (fourth) generation, saw the light of day in 2011, and Iâm still waiting for the 5th to arrive any time soon.
Cherokee doesnât have the most impressive engine on the market, but with a towing capacity of 7.4K pounds, it can easily haul the biggest and heaviest cargo.

Finally, letâs take a look at the best trailer hitches for Liberty. This model is now discontinued; yet, you can still see Liberties rolling around the US streets. For off-roading and Camping, they are also a good choice. The 2nd-gen is well capable of towing 5K pounds, which equals an average trailer. After carefully examining the market, I picked the following three trailer hitches.
They come from CURT, Draw-Tite, and Reese. Check out the best features: theyâll give you a good understanding of what you can expect from each.
