Jeep Wrangler JK: How to Make Your Own Jerry Can Mount

Jerry Can Mounts have been around since the early days of Jeeps and are still going strong today. It is easy enough to make your own Jerry Can Mount with just some simple tools from Home Depot.

A Jerry Can Mount is a device that allows you to securely mount your Jerry can in the cargo area of your Jeep Wrangler JK. Without this, it’s hard for some people to reach and grab their Jerry can while driving.  Jerry cans are typically used to store gasoline for the Jeep, but Jerry can mount also come in handy when using a Jerry can as an emergency water supply.

  • Purchase three metal brackets that will fit over the handlebars on either side of your jeep’s cargo area (you don’t need any drill bits if you already have them)
  • Buy two pieces of aluminum angle bar at least 12 inches long each
  • Buy one-inch pop rivets which should be able to reach through the holes in both ends when assembled together.

Now It Is Time for Installation

Install two of the metal brackets over either side of your jeep’s cargo area with a drill bit by tightening them down onto each set of handlebars using four pop rivets per bracket (you may need additional hardware such as screws or nuts depending on what type of screwdriver you have). Make sure you are lining up both sets so they form an “X” and try not to break any bolts in the process! You do not want these falling off, later on, trust me. If this happens, just purchase new ones.
