It doesn’t really get better than the Wrangler when it comes to off-roading. It’s reliable, capable, easy to maintain, and looks like a million bucks. The Unlimited edition, in turn, has even more “juice”, thanks to the extra cargo space, longer wheelbase, and added safety. Now, if you’ve been saving up to get yourself behind the wheel of a Wrangler Unlimited, I’m here to back your decision up.
I’ve been a fan of this four-wheeled monster for as long as I can remember and have a list of its biggest pros to share. We’ll talk about the powertrain, the design, the technology, and more. Let’s get right to it!
#1: Flexibility and Versatility
Arguably, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is the most flexible vehicle on the market. The length and the width are just right for a comfortable ride, and the brick-strong suspension system adapts to pretty much any situation. Compared to most rival SUVs, it’s more compact, which means less fuel consumption and more control over the road. This is achieved with aluminum doors and windshield frame, plus a magnesium swing gate.
#2: Superb Ride Quality
Speaking of control, Jeep’s champ has incredible traction, rigidness, and smooth ride quality. It’s a certified, trail-ready vehicle, and features heavy-duty front and rear axles, along with a Quadra-Coil suspension, a Trac-Lok rear differential, and top-of-the-line gas shocks.
#3: An Impressive EcoDiesel Engine
Even the most powerful gasoline engines aren’t always ready for the road. The good news is – with the market-leading EcoDiesel motor, the Unlimited will always have the upper hand. While the HP output isn’t particularly exciting (260 horses), it’s the high torque that does all the heavy lifting. With 420 lb.-ft. of torque, even the most challenging terrain will be a walk in the park.
#4: An Advanced Dashboard
Back in the day, SUVs used to be the least technologically advanced vehicles. Well, that’s not the case anymore! The latest Wrangler Unlimited comes packed with a lovely 8.4-inch touchscreen interface and full Smartphone integration (both iOS and Android). The buttons and knobs are all within reach and are made from high-quality materials.
#5: Market-Leading Safety Tech
And what about the safety features, you might ask? There’s enough of that as well. FCW (forward collision warning), automatic braking, and an advanced lane-departure system are just some of the highlights. Adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a rearview camera make the vehicle even safer. A quick note: you can always turn any of these features off to enjoy off-roading to the fullest.
#6: Decent Cargo Capacity
For off-roading, you want as much cargo space as you can get. Unlimited has twice the capacity of the regular Wrangler and can accommodate all of your stuff. Even if you just need a vehicle to take you to work and back, the above-average cargo capacity is still a big pro.
#7: Creature Comfort
We don’t usually think about comfort when buying an SUV. But, I’m happy to say that there’s enough head- and leg-room in Wrangler Unlimited for a cozy ride. It provides 36.7 inches of legroom and 41 inches of headroom.
#8: A Noise-Free Ride
This is another one of those “royal treatments” that most off-road-oriented vehicles don’t provide. The basic Wrangler isn’t very quiet. In contrast, the Unlimited Edition boasts premium carpeting, dashboard padding, and extra dampening for the engine bay. As a result, the interior is pretty much noise-free.
#9: Decent Towing
True, towing has never been the Wrangler’s strongest suites. The same can be said about the Unlimited, but with 3.5K of towing capacity, it gives you a lot of options. For example, it can haul a boat or even a small-size trailer for camping out with your family.
#10: Strong Aftermarket Support
No matter how careful and caring you are, you’ll need to replace or upgrade certain parts every once in a while. And that won’t be a problem with this nameplate. There are dozens, if not hundreds of different brands out there that manufacture parts, gear, and equipment that fit Unlimited perfectly.
